THE MUSCOGEE NATION FESTIVAL

OVERVIEW

In 1974, the Festival began with a softball tournament and an all-Indian rodeo with additional activities serving as a reunion of sorts for Muscogee people. Today, the Festival is a celebration of the culture, heritage, and togetherness of the Muscogee people providing a safe and fun atmosphere with FREE ADMISSION to 25+ activities and live concerts open to ALL PEOPLE of ALL AGES.

LOCATION

The Claude Cox Omniplex is a 50+ acre recreational area located on the north end of the Nation’s capital city of Okmulgee, just west of the intersection of US Highway 75 and the north end of the Loop Route of State Highway 56. The Omniplex is home to the Mvskoke Dome, a fitness facility/arena with a basketball court; an outdoor rodeo arena; amphitheater with green room for entertainers; four softball fields with concession building; horseshoe pits; volleyball area; open-air pavilion with concrete floor and electricity; gazebo with concrete floor/outdoor picnic/small event area; covered playground; restroom/shower facilities; and concrete vendor pads equipped with electricity, running water, and gray-water disposal.

DATE

While the majority of events and the ultimate Festival weekend occur annually during the fourth weekend in June (according to legislation from the Nation’s National Council) at the Claude Cox Omniplex, a few other events take place throughout the month in a few other locations within the Nation’s jurisdiction.

ATTENDANCE

Over the course of four days, an estimated 40,000 people not only from the Muscogee Nation and/or Oklahoma, but also from across the US attend the Festival and converge upon the city of Okmulgee each year. Many Muscogee citizens along with their families and friends arrange their calendars each summer around the event.
